Synod raises hopes for long-sought recognition of women in the Catholic Church

  1. The time for women to be deacons has long since become essential to the health of the Church. Other changes are needed as well. The ordained are trained and commissioned to be pastoral not administrators. Bishops and priests need to be relieved of administrative responsibilities and instead focus on the pastoral needs of communities which I believe have been ignored because of the burdensome administrative mandates. Administration can and should be handled by the laity. Those who are questioning their faith, the sick, the dying, the troubled all need a pastor to provide the empathy, mercy and love to maintain them in the faith. Those pastoral needs are missing now and as a consequence, people are leaving the faith, because it does not meet the needs of their life challenges. We need more workers to nurse society back to health, back to the vision of Jesus who said we should be known for our love.
