'Fratelli tutti' does not include women, and neither does 'fraternity'

Just Catholic: Forget about women in church leadership. Could the Vatican maybe hire a few women editors? The latest embarrassment: "Fratelli tutti," title of the coming papal encyclical, is Italian for "all brothers."

    Anyone who knows even limited Italian knows that the use of the word "fratelli" in this context does not have a connotation of or reference to gender. It encompasses everyone, and the appropriate English translation is "Brothers and Sisters." ---R. Spatti
