Your thoughts on abolishing the priesthood, part two

Your thoughts on abolishing the priesthood, part two

  1. How is the ordinary pew resident to look at the priest in the pulpit amid the sexual abuse scandal? Does he really have the charism of celibacy or was it some obstacle to be accepted so as to be of ministerial service? On a scale of celibacy observance, does this priest sit closer to the side of perfect or the side of imperfect? Is he mature enough to know that masturbation is a natural phenomenon, or, for him, sinful? Is he at the other end of the scale and involved in an exclusive relationship with the belief that change will only happen if disobedience occurs at the grassroots? And then there is the question of integrity! Do those who embody the clerical culture actually believe that they are pulling the wool over the eyes of the pew sitters? The apple rots from the inside out! Real change occurs when Catholic theologians learn science, especially that of human sexuality, and couple what science they learn to their development of meaningful (read: acceptable to people 50 and younger) dogmatic and moral theology.
