Why is the church failing in the West?

Thomas Reese: There are numerous signs that the Catholic Church is failing in Western countries. There are few vocations, church attendance is down and young people are leaving the church in droves. Why?

    A simple approach to a complex historical reality described by Father Reese: The institutional Church's definition of papal infallibility and papal jurisdiction over the local churches, at Vatican I, was the tipping point of idolatry of itself. John the Baptist offers the path of conversion when, pointing beyond himself to Jesus, he said, "Of him there must be more and more, of me less and less." Jn 3:30
