Seven tips for a more joyful priesthood

  1. Well, the worst and saddest moment in life is to look back on an experience and to see that, long ago, not many of Ference's Seven Tips were brought forward for a fruitful life. Was it a different wor;d? Probably so, but more to the point is that there were not priests like Father Ference who cared to nurture us young priests. I was assigned a triple duty: go to school to earn a degree, teach in the high school, and do parish work. The advice I was given by my pastor, [who was elevated to episcopacy], by way of encouragement was: "don't spend too much time studying for the degree, after all you're a priest, they will give you passing grades." And as if this advice did suffice, other priest teacher's would advise having fun and not waste time worrying about preparing lessons. But the most devastating was not finding priests who would spend time for conversation and reflection. Oh well so much for the pollyanna views expressed by Ferance. Yes, it was a different world. Always Leonardo
