Faith Seeking Understanding: As U.S. bishops imprudently forged ahead with a document on Communion ostensibly targeting Biden, I returned to some of Merton's writings on ecclesial and social crises of the mid-1960s.

    This reference to Thomas Merton seems right on target to me.

    Well, Horan leaves our spiritual mouths watering when he quotes Merton that we yearn for "valid Christian hope." The Bishops are not noted for their Gospel learning; they leave us sheep looking up while not being fed. They will do themselves a service by reading Jeremiah 23:1-6; a warning. Please God send us a Merton or a Rahner, or anyone, with Gospel intelligence. Leonardo
