A Day of Prophetic Voices

A Day of Prophetic Voices
Greetings!
Many thanks to those who joined us for our opening event yesterday afternoon! It was wonderful to be together to celebrate all that we've accomplished, honor those who have shaped this movement, and create space for laughter in this often challenging work. Our stories are truly holy, and food for the journey.

Today we raise up the voices of prophetic people who walk this path to equality alongside us with a full day of video messages. If you would like to use closed captioning, please enable it by clicking the CC button at the bottom of the video screen; we've done our best to make sure the subtitles are correct!

First, our current board president, Jennifer O'Malley and her wife, Liz Carlin welcome all to the gala celebrations, and acknowledge our sponsors.

Liz and Jen are joined by Sr. Jeannine Gramick, who surprised WOC with the honor of the Margaret Ellen Traxler Award! This award honors women of integrity who boldly advocate for justice in the face of opposition. The award is represented by a giraffe as a symbol of "a willingness to stick out one’s neck despite conflict with Church or State authorities." Thank you, Sr. Jeannine and thank you to the National Coalition of American Nuns.

Then it is my honor to welcome you to the gala, and express my deep gratitude for all those who have made this anniversary possible.

And finally, in this session, we will hear from Sr. Margaret Farley, RSM. Dr. Farley attended the first Women's Ordination Conference where she gave an address titled, "The Moral Imperatives of the Ordination of Women" (find the full text of the 1975 address here), and 45 years later, she stands by nearly every word.

You can find the rest of the schedule for the day below, or in our special gala program, which includes our anniversary prayer and the worship aid for Sunday's liturgy.

Please also consider giving generously to help WOC not only celebrate this milestone, but prepare for the next chapter of advocacy for women's ordination and gender equity in the Catholic Church, from the grassroots to the Vatican! Click below to make a contribution:
