In a 1984 lecture at St. Louis University, Cardinal Joseph Bernardin argued for a consistent ethic of life. “No one is called to do everything,” he said, “but each of us can do something. And we can strive not to stand against each other when the protection and the promotion of life are at stake.”

For many Catholics, concern for life includes working for racial justice, humane immigration policies, and family justice as much as it does working to end abortion or assisted suicide. What does being a pro-life Catholic mean to you? U.S. Catholic wants to know.
